From September 12 to 15, 2024, Vienna’s leading art fair welcomed visitors to the magnificent halls of Messe Wien, where 103 international exhibitors from 27 countries showcased exciting newcomers, established galleries, and carefully curated special exhibitions with a focus on Central and Eastern Europe.

With the thematic focus STATEMENT: ENERGY, viennacontemporary addressed urgent questions of sustainability and contemporary modes of energy production. The exhibition “The Color of Energy”, organized in cooperation with Salzburger Kunstverein and curated by its director, Mirela Baciak, invited 13 artists to engage with this pressing topic.

The newly introduced section CONTEXT, curated by Pernilla Holmes, revisited important but often overlooked artists from the late 20th century. Meanwhile, ZONE1, curated by Bruno Mokross, featured 10 emerging artists with strong ties to Austria.

A record number of art prizes honored outstanding artistic positions at the fair and provided important support to both galleries and artists.

A rich program of talks, guided tours, collaborations with renowned museums, charming cafés, and leading cultural institutions—as well as a dedicated KIDS program —rounded out this unique art experience in the heart of Vienna.
