This year’s STATEMENT focuses on algorithmic control, digital disinformation, and technological manipulation. Digital platforms, shaped by autocratic regimes, techno-libertarians, and platform oligarchs are reconfiguring public discourse and democratic possibility on a global scale. Disinformation, synthetic media, and surveillance technologies are no longer abstract concerns, but concrete forces shaping perception, agency, and civic life. Leading experts reflect on how these forces operate across regions and histories, particularly where disinformation has long been used as a tool of statecraft, cultural erasure, and ideological warfare.
