Q21 viennacontemporary Artist-in-Residence program
As part of the international art fair viennacontemporary 2018, the one-month Q21 viennacontemporary Artist-in-Residence program, during which an artist can work and live in a studio on the premises of the MuseumsQuartier Wien, will be awarded in cooperation with the magazine EIKON.
The Q21 viennacontemporary Artist-in-Residence program will be awarded in the category of artistic photography and media art. Galleries exhibiting at viennacontemporary have the opportunity to nominate one international artist each. The prize allows an artist to spend one month in 2019 in one of the 9 studios in the MQ complex, and additional €1,050 will be paid to the artist chosen by the jury.
The Artproof production grant and residency for photography
Artproof is an international art printing laboratory with locations in Tallinn, Stockholm, and Berlin. The enterprise stages more than 60 exhibitions a year for artists worldwide.
At the Artproof photo-print laboratory, artists can realize their visions in exactly the way they want to. In order to support young artists working with the medium of photography, Artproof has so far awarded production grants in Estonia (since 2012), Finland (since 2014), Germany (since 2016), Sweden (since 2017), London (since 2017), and Vienna at viennacontemporary (since 2016). The grant includes 5,000 euro worth of printing and framing services. In addition, a one week residency in Tallinn, Estonia, including flights and accommodation will be provided, so that the winner can oversee the production process. The exhibition produced using the Artproof Grant will be delivered to Artists studio or gallery within the limits of EU complimentary.
The winner of the Artproof grant at viennacontemporary so far were Ulrike Königshofer (Galerie Reinthaler, Vienna) in 2016 and Anu Vahtra (Chimera-Project Gallery, Budapest) in 2017. In 2018, a top-class jury will again choose a winner among the participating artists.
viennacontemporary | BILDRECHT SOLO AWARD
Debuted in 2018, the “viennacontemporary | BILDRECHT SOLO AWARD” is an annual art prize by Bildrecht. By involving an independent jury consisting of renowned art world professionals, the award seeks to broaden the winners’ visibility and to expand their standing within the art market. In addition, “viennacontemporary | BILDRECHT SOLO AWARD” honors galleries for taking the risk of solo presenting one artist in the context of viennacontemporary art fair. Under this award, the winning artist and the representing gallery each receive € 2.000.
For art and artists
Bildrecht, the copyright agency representing 5.000 artists active in the segments of fine arts, media arts, graphic arts, photography, performance, design, and architecture, performs a special cultural function: by acquiring and distributing royalties, offering support programs and awarding prizes, it strengthens the livelihoods of artists. Bildrecht also maintains four art spaces: Bildraum 01 and Bildraum 07 in Vienna, Bildraum Bodensee in Bregenz, and Bildraum Studio at Brotfabrik Wien. Besides monthly changing exhibitions, its residency program and the participation at art fairs across Austria, Bildrecht is a long-standing cooperation partner of various galleries, cultural institutions, and art festivals. In addition to the “Dagmar Chobot Skulpturenpreis”, which launched in 2016 and is explicitly dedicated to the medium of sculpture, experimental positions and installation art, Bildrecht has now initiated its second art prize: the “viennacontemporary | BILDRECHT SOLO AWARD”. Aimed at supporting artists and galleries alike, the award annually honors a gallery statement that demonstrates strong potential and an artist who is at a pivotal point in his/her career.
